"Lang Tengah Island is truly a tropical jewel of Malaysia's East Coast situated in the state of Terengganu. Its beauty and tranquility combined with tall coconut trees overlooking dazzling crystal clear waters; white sandy beach and well-preserved marine life makes Lang Tengah Island irresistible. It is located between Pulau Redang and Pulau Perhentian and can be accessed by boat from Merang jetty."
This is what was written on the brochure of the resort I stayed, Summer Bay Resort. My family and I flew from KLIA2 to Sultan Mahmud Airport in Terengganu, an hour flight, early in the morning on 23rd of September. We then took a taxi from the airport to the jetty, located around 30 KM. Then, the boat ride took us around 45 minutes to get to Lang Tengah Island 38 KM. Once there, you'll be invited by the sandy white beach, that looks similar to powdered milk! We checked in our resort and decided to lounge on the hammock and had lunch. The salty breeze and the soothing sound of crashing waves lulls you into a state of peace.
I'm just being honest here, the food served here in the buffet for the price you pay for it, not worth it. Fruits apparently just mean a bowl of oranges. But since you're stuck on an island, it's either that or you live on cup noodles or climb up some coconut trees for a snack.
The next day, we woke up early to join the snorkelling group. They leave at 9 and before that they huddle up into a group and have a quick briefing of things you should and not do during the experience. Bear in mind, a snorkel mask is RM15 and a life vest is RM15. The snorkelling trip is RM100 per person (not including the gears so that's RM130, ouch!). We spent half the day until 4 p.m floating in the middle of the sea, watching colourful corals and exotic fishes. At 4:30 to 5:30 p.m, we had an early dinner at Laguna Resort. Now, this resort is magnificent!
Beautiful wooden architecture and a private beach cove. This was place was packed with families which is why we didn't get a room. *cries*
So I ate a tender burger and left back to our resort, leaving strong 3G reception behind *cries harder*. I immediately crashed on the bed as soon as I reached my room. Ugh my arms and legs ache!
Around 9 p.m later that night, we gathered at the lobby with all the other guest, to go watch something called "Blue Sand". Basically, it's a very small plankton that emits blue light when disturbed. We first went through the jungle, tumbling in the darkness, coming out on the other side of the island. We went to the shallow waters where there was rocks sticking out from the water. The guide gently strokes the rocks and blue lights began to slowly glow. Unfortunately, it was too dark to get a picture of these tiny creatures.
On the third day, we packed our bags and proceed with our buffet breakfast, which was, if I were to rate it out of 5, I would give it a 3. The boat we got to get back from the resort to the jetty is the one from the jetty, not the resort's. If we were to get the boat from the resort's, it would cost RM100 per person for a one way journey.
Now, I'm in a Grand Continental hotel room in Kuala Terengganu, typing away since we still have a day left here and had a mix up in the Summer Bay Resort booking. Oh well, at least I have a decent internet speed and nice food :p
Below is a little video I made during my trip. Enjoy!
